Gary Young’s Vision…“Essential Oils in Every Home”
When Gary Young decided to follow his vision of getting therapeutic grade essential oils into every home in the world, he already understood how to properly grow, handle and distill various plants in order to capture the most beneficial therapeutic components of them. But he realized he would also need a way to teach people about the value and health benefits of using essential oils. Oils that are pure: oils that are produced from plants grown in virgin soils, oils that are distilled at low temperatures using the correct pressure, oils that could heal, and oils that would help people.
While he understood the low quality of oils being produced globally, mostly for the food and perfume industries, Gary Young realized that competing in the market place using traditional methods would be foolish. Oils produced in a laboratory, containing little or no therapeutic value, would be far cheaper to manufacture than anything he could produce naturally. Profit margins are extremely high for producers of low quality, adulterated, stretched, improperly distilled, or synthetic oils. Even the cost of raw plant material can vary tremendously depending on a variety of factors.
The decision about how to market these precious essential oils was the next question Gary had to consider. He could produce Young Living therapeutic grade oils and sell them in bulk to a wholesaler, or he could bottle the oils and sell them to the retail industry. Another option he had was to loosen his standards so he would be able to compete in the marketplace. Seemingly a tough question, it was truly an easy decision for Gary. “I will never make a product to a price” says Dr. Young. He needed to find a better way.
In order to protect the quality of Young Living products, ensuring the therapeutic quality is the same at your door-step as it was in the test lab, Gary Young had to find a way to get these essential oils around the world without anyone having the opportunity to adulterate or otherwise negate the therapeutic qualities of them.
These factors left Gary with only one viable option - set up a heart-centered company where the people care and motivate them with huge incentives. “Lead by example” says Gary, “Build it and they will come”.
