What in the world is Oola?

If you’re like me, that must be the question you have in your mind right now. I fought off learning about Oola for months. Yes, I’m a stubborn individual. I just wasn’t making an effort to understand Oola’s connection with Young Living and when we first heard of it at Convention way back in June of 2014, I just didn’t get it. I couldn’t tell if it was a philosophy, a product or a campaign.

Turns out if I had been paying better attention, I would have known that it wasn’t only a best-selling book, but a lifestyle that I desire.

Sometimes I feel like that’s the story of my life. When something so big, so important and so life-changing pops right into my lap and my best response is, “What… Huh?” Well, I’m here to tell you that you need to get to know Oola. It’s a #gamechanger.

My favorite part of this journey we’re on with Young Living is about growth. I’m talking every. single. day. growth. I’m doing things that take me far out of my comfort zone and it’s illuminated areas that I really need to work on. And that’s a very good thing.

Dr. Dave Braun and Dr. Troy Amdahl (both are former chiropractors) are the authors of the book and the Oola University program. Dave is the #OolaSeeker and Troy is the #OolaGuru. It’s their real-life story of how the two colleagues (and friends) have discovered how to balance their lives in every key area, not just professionally and personally.

In their own words, they describe Oola as a “state of awesomeness” and they’ve identified 7 areas in our lives that we all need to seek balance in:

  1. Fitness
  2. Finance
  3. Family
  4. Field (job/profession)
  5. Faith
  6. Friends
  7. Fun

The concept is that when we get out of balance in one area (Fitness, for example), it begins to unbalance the other areas with it, as if all seven areas are connected with a rope. And in my personal experience, they’re 100% right.

For example, an area I struggle in is Fun. I’m wound up pretty tight at times. It’s the Achiever – Responsibility Strengths of my makeup that prevent me from letting go of duties, projects and responsibilities to a point where I simply stop enjoying life and having fun. So when that happens, other areas begin to be affected:  Friends, Family, and even Faith. And as those begin to slide, they’ll begin to pull the remaining areas with it (Finance and Field). DANG!

What I need is more balance. Heck, it’s what you need, too! Admit it, you’re just as messed up with stuff as I am. Maybe it’s not with Fun but maybe it’s with Fitness or Faith. You get the idea.

You are designed for greatness and a purpose, so why settle for ordinary when extraordinary is within you?!

Oola is a collection of very sincere stories that we all can relate to, and each has a positive message and action-steps we can take to find the balance we seek. Dave is the #OolaSeeker. His story grips you right from the beginning; a man who “had it all” and then hit rock bottom. It’s at his rock bottom that he finally got the courage to call his good friend, Troy, (the #OolaGuru) to help him climb back up and out of the hole he found himself in. The book is the juxtaposition of the two men’s journey — leading them to write the book, and ultimately develop the Oola University program.
